Casio WSD-F20 Android Wear 2.0 Smartwatch Announced

There's also a new low-powered Global Positioning System in this model that can monitor your location even when the watch is offline, as well as colored maps that can be downloaded to the watch and viewed in online or offline modes. A price hasn't been announced at the moment, but it will likely match the $500 price tag of the WSD-F10.

Last year, Casio launched the WSD-F10 as its first Android Wear-powered smartwatch. While Motorola will not be releasing a new smartwatch based on Android Wear 2.0, Casio remains committed to the Android smartwatch and will be releasing a new rugged smartwatch known as the WSD-F20.

With a similar rugged aesthetic to its predecessor, Casio's new wearable builds on the smart outdoor concept it introduced with the WSD-F10, with a similar metallic industrial design. Since the smartwatch expected for outdoor usage, Casio has added a protective bezel and button guards on the watch, which lend to its MIL-STD-810G rating.

The dual-layer display is back - it offers a monochrome mode (high visibility, low power use) and color (for the advanced Android Wear features).

The map data is delivered via Mapbox, which is the same source used by popular apps like Pinterest, Foursquare or Strava.

The new watch runs on Android 2.0, and the WSD-F10 will also receive an update to the new OS. The GPS feature can track your whereabouts even in offline mode, which is pretty neat. As a companion to those maps, the new Location Memory app on the watch will let users set pinpoints and text on maps so they can remember and revisit points of interest.

Casio will reveal more details about the device during its CES keynote at 1PM PST, though it will not go on sale until April 21st.
