LG unveils a 2.57 mm thin OLED TV, calls it "Wallpaper"

"It's this design concept that's going to transform the viewing experience at home", Dave VanderWaal, vice president of marketing for LG Electronics USA, from the stage at CES on Wednesday. The company declined to identify the vendor of its OLED displays.

The three TV models in Sony's new BRAVIA OLED A1E series "offer a totally new entertainment experience", according to the electronics giant.

There's also a new HDR effect feature that is created to bring some of the benefits of HDR to standard definition content by processing the picture frame by frame to increase brightness in certain areas, enhance contrast ratios and display more precise images.

One of the best features is the acoustic surface technology, in which the entire screen resonates with great sound emanating directly from the screen itself.

What makes this OLED TV stand out from the crowd is Sony's Acoustic Surface technology, which makes sound by vibrating the screen.

Sony promises it "produces a wide sound and image synchronization from all angles".

The formats supported by Active HDR include HDR10, Dolby Vision, Hybrid Log Gamma (Europe), and Technicolor Technology's Advanced HDR. There are not speakers visible anywhere on the device. I'll update you with pricing information as soon as it's available. That model ranges from 49 to 75 inches, while the largest P-series model is 65 inches. In addition, the TV features an Absolute Black Filter to reduce ambient light and reflections on the screen.

LG is also showcasing Channel Plus at CES 2017 - a free service powered by XUMO and now available on LG's webOS smart TVs.

All of these new LCD models will also add Dolby Vision support, leaving Samsung and Panasonic looking increasingly isolated in their refusal to buy into Dolby's dynamic metadata HDR system. The new TVs that Sony is trotting out for CES or announcing on stage are numerous, and all of them have their own unique feature sets, though not all of them feature HDR compatibility or a 4K resolution.
