Jurgen Klopp Expresses More Uncertainty on Joel Matip Situation

Liverpool emerged victorious from their FA Cup third-round replay with Plymouth Argyle, as Jurgen Klopp's team advanced with a nervy 1-0 win.

The issue with Matip comes in the disagreement Liverpool has with Cameroon in that the 25-year-old center back announced his global retirement before squads were selected for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Matip was one of seven Cameroon players who rejected the chance to compete at the tournament, and Liverpool expect to be informed on Friday of whether Federation Internationale de Football Association plans to open a disciplinary investigation into his refusal to play.

Liverpool has confirmed centre-back Joel Matip has been withdrawn from selection as the club seeks clarification over his availability for Premier League action.

Klopp resents the suggestion the club or Matip himself have wilfully gone against Cameroon's wishes.

"The thing is that in this moment, we are sure we don't nothing wrong".

"The longer you don't score, the more exciting it can get and you saw that when they started getting really direct", Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told BT Sport. And since they had to take 12 players off anyway to get down to the final 23, I don't think Cameroon was expecting any of these seven players to be on the squad.

"FIFA have told us they will decide on Friday if they open a case or not". For me it is pretty hard.

"The procedure, I'd consider to line him up tomorrow in the FA Cup (replay at Plymouth), but I'm not sure I can".

"But in this moment, we have no 100% guarantee that he could play for us".

FIFA laws state that associations who name a player in the final squad for an global tournament must notify the player in writing at least 15 days before the beginning of the relevant release period. "From the sports side, it would make absolute sense, [it's a] ideal game for him and all that stuff, but I'm not sure if I can". "But we are not the only club in this situation, Schalke and West Brom are in the same situation and the goalkeeper at Ajax too". "It is hard to accept".
