Airbnb offers free housing to those affected by immigration ban

Brian Chesky, the CEO of accommodation site AirBnB, said on Twitter that his company would offer free housing to people not allowed to enter the U.S.

Meanwhile, Sundar Pichai, Google CEO also criticised President Donald Trump's controversial immigration order against people from seven Muslim-majority countries, saying it will create "barriers" to bringing great talent to the USA, as the Internet search giant ordered its travelling staff to return to America. "Airbnb is providing free housing to refugees and anyone not allowed in the U.S.", he tweeted. "Stayed tuned for more, contact me if urgent need for housing". In fact, the company has matched the $1 million worth of donation to the UN Refugee Agency.

Airbnb could not immediately provide data as to how many people had reached out for housing assistance.

An uneasy truce that's presided between big business and the Trump administration showed its first cracks over the weekend, as the tech industry in particular registered its disapproval of the president's immigration ban. Citizens include refugees and people who hold valid visas or permanent residence permits. "We ask that you continue to be there for each other - and together, continue proving the power of community". The ban will be in place for 90 days and has affected thousands.

Chesky isn't alone in expressing his feelings regarding the accounts of Trump, with Reed Hastings, CEO Netflix, taking to Facebook to write: "Trump's actions are hurting Netflix employees around the world, and are so un-American it pains us all".

The post announced that Airbnb offers free housing to anyone affected by the ban.

Joe Gebbia, another co-founder and Airbnb's chief product officer, also shared his support of refugees in a series of tweets Saturday and encouraged people to donate to the United Nations refugee agency.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has made it clear that his company "would not exist without immigration, let alone thrive and innovate the way we do", according to a memo sent to employees worldwide and obtained by USA Today.
