Bobcat is still on the lam from National Zoo

After Ollie, a 25-pound female bobcat, went missing from the National Zoo, D.C. public schools made a decision to move recess indoors at 13 nearby schools, even though bobcats are known for their shyness.

Ollie, who is thought to be nearly 7 years old, may return for food and shelter.

The approximately 25 lb. bobcat was last counted at 7:30 a.m. this morning by a keeper.

Staff searched the area, but couldn't find the bobcat anywhere. They're also hopeful her enclosure's promise of food and shelter may be enough to bring her back to the zoo. The area around the bobcat exhibit is closed because she likely will stay hidden from humans, the zoo said.Bobcats, which are similar to lynxes, range from Mexico to southern Canada and can run up to 30 miles per hour (48 km per hour).

Although the zoo said there is "no imminent danger" to Zoo patrons or the public, people were advised not to approach Ollie if she is seen.

American University sent students a text message Monday warning that the animal had escaped. One could say this is the living sequel to Madagascar. However, Ollie has killed birds inside the enclosure, Smith said.

At an afternoon news conference, Craig Saffoe, the zoo's curator of great cats, described Ollie as "very standoffish".

Traps have been put in place to capture the adorable creature if she returns on her own. 'It will be very, very hard to find her'.

Bobcats, Pacelle said, live among us in the Lower 48 states and are coveted by hunters for their pelts.

A National Zoo bobcat has escaped from her enclosure, the zoo announced Monday. According to The Post, the huge-whiskered brownish gray cats eat rabbits, squirrels, mice and small deer. Keepers do routine checks of all animals at the Zoo first thing in the morning. Saffoe, realist who probably sighs a lot, added, "Cats are survivors".
