"I have decided that it is not the right moment yet to take the job as sporting director".

He joined Bayern as an 11-year-old in 1995 and, apart from a two-year loan spell at VfB Stuttgart, he has spent his entire career at the Bavarian giants.

"One of the reasons for my success at Bayern is the relationship with Philipp Lahm; he helped me a lot from the beginning", Guardiola said.

"I will retire at the end of the season".

"I had thought about taking this decision last season, but then I had to test myself, my ability to go on".

"Lahm has been an important player for Bayern Munich for over a decade", Rummenigge said.

"We are talking about more than a year and I believe that I am not able to maintain the level that I am used to and my teammates are used to".

Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm thanks the fans after the team's win against Benfica in the Champions League on 13 April 2016.

Lahm, 33, joined Bayern aged 11 and has spent nearly his entire career there, but will exit at the end of the season.
