Moyes hopes to take advantage of Southampton's focus on Wembley

Italy forward Gabbiadini marked his Saints debut with a goal in a 3-1 defeat against West Ham last weekend and, after the visitors had weathered an early storm at the Stadium of Light, he became just the second Saints player to score in his first two Premier League matches.

Sunderland must wait two weeks before they are next in action against Everton, with Moyes adding: "Like everybody else we don't have a game next week so we'll be in the same situation".

"It is very important sometimes to stay calm, to recover with their families and come back with strength, with good character and good spirit".

Jermain Defoe has 14 league goals in 2016-17 - just one shy of his total for last season.

On Martin Caceres: "For the moment it is hard for me to comment on this because he has not signed for Southampton. The best way to prepare for the EFL Cup final (against Manchester United on February 26) is with a good result this weekend against Sunderland". Adnun Januzaj faces a race to be fit for this likewise Jack Rodwell.

Claude Puel's side have lost six of their last seven league games.

Newcastle should go all out in a battle with fierce rivals Sunderland for Southampton striker Sam Gallagher to help ensure their Premier League survival next season. Charlie Austin, Jeremy Pied and Virgil Van Dijk are longer term injury doubts. Darren Gibson and Joleon Lescott are both pushing for their first starts in Sunderland shirts. It could be that Uruguay's Martin Caceres is signed in time for this clash but even if that happens, he's not played in nearly a year due to injury so seems unlikely to be the immediate solution. The Italy global fired past goalkeeper Vito Mannone, making it three goals in two league games for Gabbiadini, who was signed from Napoli.

This equals Southampton's biggest away win in the top flight.

Mid-table Southampton extended its lead in first-half stoppage time when Dusan Tadic picked out Gabbiadini's run inside the penalty area.
