Harrison Ford Involved in Incident with Passenger Plane, FAA Opening Investigation

The passenger jet was waiting for Ford's plane to land on the runway in front of them, but instead it flew over them and landed on the taxiway.

Ford was on final approach at John Wayne Airport in Orange County Monday when he mistook a taxiway for the runway.

As he was landing, his plane passed over a passenger plane - an American Airlines 737 - that had 116 people on board. Ford was recorded asking air traffic control.

Ford was given correct landing instructions, the FAA said.

According to the FAA, Air traffic controllers cleared the pilot of a single-engine Aviat Husky to land on Runway 20L at John Wayne Airport Monday afternoon.

The flight, which was headed to Dallas-Fort Worth, was reportedly able to depart safely.

"The close call is now under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration, according to the report". As a result of the error, Ford could have his pilot license suspended or receive a warning letter.

In 2015, Ford told investigators he did not recall the moments before he crashed his vintage plane onto a Los Angeles-area golf course, suffering serious injuries and badly damaging the aircraft.

However, Ford, who trained as a pilot in the 1950s, is generally considered to be an good pilot in flying circles.

He also downed a helicopter in 1999 during a training session. And in 2000, his Beechcraft Bonanza slightly scraped the runway during an emergency landing at Nebraska's Lincoln Municipal Airport.
