Toronto Raptors trade for Orlando Magic PF Serge Ibaka

According to Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Raptors have agreed to a trade with the Orlando Magic that will send power forward Sergie Ibaka to the Raptors in exchange for guard-forward Terrence Ross and a 2017 first-round pick.

Orlando paid a hefty price for Ibaka, sending Victor Oladipo, Ersan Ilyasova and first-round pick Domantas Sabonis to the Oklahoma City Thunder for the power forward.

The 6-foot-10 Ibaka was averaging 15.1 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game for the Magic this season.

"Serge has been to a finals, he's been to a Western Conference finals, he's played with an MVP, he's played with a possible MVP, he knows how to play the game of basketball", Lowry said. He has three years remaining on his current deal at a total of $31 million.

Ross, 26, is averaging 10.4 points through 54 games in his fifth season in Toronto. What this move does for the Raptors is provide them with the inside presence they so desperately needed since the departure of Bismack Biyombo last offseason. And while the Magic got less for Ibaka than they traded away, they deserve credit for moving on and getting something for him, as opposed to either losing him for nothing as a free agent this summer or massively overpaying to keep him.

The Magic's hope was that they could rotate big men Nikola Vucevic, Bismack Biyombo and Ibaka into their lineup this season and still hold up defensively against the growing National Basketball Association trend of "small ball". Only Jodie Meeks is shooting better from 3-point range for the Magic. Will the Cavs trade Kevin Love in lieu of the recent injury update, or make another move to help their roster? Moving Ibaka for Ross will shift promising third-year forward Aaron Gordon back to the four, a change SI.com advocated for last week, and it will allow coach Frank Vogel to, get this, trot out lineups with multiple perimeter shooters at the same time. On Tuesday, the Raptors made a splash to try and turn their season around.

Orlando Magic forward Serge Ibaka (7) shoots the ball over Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam (43) during the first quarter of an NBA basketball game at Amway Center.
