Watch out, Intel! AMD Ryzen 7 desktop processors are nearly here

AMD made headlines this week after revealing a slew of details surrounding its new Ryzen processor range, claiming that it's the world's "highest-performing and lowest powered" octacore desktop PC chips.

Considering the prices of the Ryzen 7 CPUs, AMD may start a price war in the CPU competition.

As an added bonus for fans, AMD officially opened all pre-orders to three of its new Ryzen processors prior to its general launch scheduled on March 2.

One of the things that they've also taken pride in is being able to outform Intel's i7-6900K in the synthetic benchmarks, where they showed 9% performance gains over Intel's long-lauded king of the CPU arena.

The 1700X runs on 3.4GHz, which can be boosted to 3.8GHz, being 39% faster than Intel i7 6800K chip. What's interesting is that it offers the same performance Intel's Core i7 6900 does which costs over $1000. We expect Kaby Lake's higher frequency to still keep the single-threaded crown against Ryzen, though we reckon that AMD will get reasonably close, unlike the very poor performance of the incumbent Bulldozer/Excavator core. Early third-party video and gaming benchmarks suggest the 1800X should at least be in the same league.

Three AMD Ryzen 7 desktop processors will launch globally on March 2, the 8-core, 16-thread Ryzen 7 1800X, Ryzen 7 1700X, and Ryzen 7 1700. It can be acquired for only $329 and it is 40% better in comparison with Intel's Core i7 7700K.

Ryzen is the initial step in a potential turnaround for AMD. AMD have two competitors to look out for simultaneously with Intel for the processors while Nvidia has been the primary competitor for AMD in the field of graphics.

PC Gamer compared the Ryzen 7 1800x with the Intel i7-6900K in different high-specs games.

If you were hoping to see maximum clocks in the mid 4GHz range (eg, 4.3-4.5GHz), that's not happening. The base clock comes in at 3.0GHz and is boosted to 3.7GHz when needed.

At the high-end, there's the AMD flagship - the Ryzen 7 1800X.

These analysts also forecasted Growth Estimates for the Current Quarter for AMD to be 66.7%. If in fact you actually can buy a fully-built PC (with memory, storage, a Radeon RX 480 graphics card, and RGB LED lighting) for the same price as an Intel processor with roughly similar performance, the choice isn't hard.

Meanwhile, you can pre-order all three Ryzen 7 models starting today from retailers like Amazon, Newegg, and Microcenter.
