Mets to keep David Wright from throwing because of shoulder impingement

The Mets have some infield flexibility in Wright's absence, with Jose Reyes and Wilmer Flores taking the bulk of reps at third base past year. Wright is now back in NY being examined further.

Last season, Wright was limited to just 37 games because of a herniated disc in his neck.

Alderson revealed that thankfully he doesn't have any structural damage in his shoulder, so there's no need for surgery of any kind at this moment.

Mets captain David Wright has returned from spring training to NY, been diagnosed with impingement in his right shoulder and was told not to throw for two weeks.

For now, Sandy has downgraded Wright's availability for Opening Day to questionable.

Another baseball season is upon us, and unfortunately, so is another David Wright injury. If Wright is forced to open the season on the disabled list, Jose Reyes would likely be the top candidate to serve as the club's primary third baseman. Reyes posted a.267/.326/.443 slash with 25 extra base hits, including eight home runs, in 60 games last season.

February 24, 2017 - The Mets raise eyebrows by having Wright, still recovering from that surgery last June, throw in private away from the media.
