Try crepes with a twist this Pancake Tuesday

On this Shrove Tuesday, Brits aren't expected to be particularly adventurous when it comes to pancakes with almost half (43 per cent) opting for the classic lemon and sugar topping.

The Lost Marbles string band and E-Team clowns sorted the street entertainment for the annual Shrove Tuesday event, organised by the East End's Alternative Arts collective.

Britons are looking forward to making and devouring pancakes with family and friends to celebrate Pancake Day today. Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld, Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks explain, via the Spurs official YouTube website their favourite pancake recipes.

Heat a small frying pan and grease with butter then ladle in enough batter to coat the base of the pan.

Calvary Episcopal Church, 1337 Winchester Ave., Ashland, hosts a pancake dinner from 5 p.m.to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, featuring a performance by Tom Stephens, educator, minister and jazz musician.

Lemon and sugar remains a popular topping choice among pancake lovers, while berries, chocolate spread, honey and yoghurt are all popular choices for those with a sweet tooth.




While most people will take the DIY route this week, 31 per cent of those polled admitted to not knowing the ingredients of batter - flour, eggs, milk and oil - with men significantly less likely to know what is in a pancake than women.

The day provides an opportunity to use up remaining eggs, flour and milk - the traditional pancake ingredients - before the start of spring.

Are thick and fluffy American-style pancakes more to your taste?

Then you are are ready to go - adding sugar and lemon, or Nutella - or whatever you fancy. Make a well in the centre of the flour, break in the egg and add some of the milk.
