Chelsea nearly unstoppable, says Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola

Goals in each half from Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane were enough to secure another win but Guardiola conceded the team he took over last summer can not catch Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola:"During the season, we have had some good moments, some not so good. We have big objectives but the way we go about our business means we just try to concentrate on winning the next game", he said. "Every game will be a final, not just for the title contenders, but for the teams playing for Champions League qualification, Europa League, relegation", via BBC Sport. "Confidence is the key in modern football, as Leicester showed last season - they won the league with an average team".

"But you have to show again in Sunderland and in the next games", explained Guardiola, whose now third-placed side head into the weekend 11 points behind leaders Chelsea. Sunderland head into the match six points adrift of safety, and now sit rock bottom.

Borini has only scored once this season, in the Boxing Day defeat to Manchester United, but the former Liverpool forward has previously emerged as the man for the big occasion in a Sunderland shirt.

"It doesn't matter the position they are, I know in that position they will be more physical and pay more attention due to their situation". That is the way we've focussed on the on the last month or two months.

Manager David Moyes had no qualms with the Black Cats' efforts, but warned their hard work must quickly start yielding points. In the first half they had more corner kicks than us.

Aguero has been in fine form since getting his place back, scoring five goals in his last three matches across all competitions, including the opener in Sunday's win at the Stadium of Light.

Not for the first time, Aguero's finishing instincts in front of goal embellished what was never more than a workmanlike display against Sunderland.

Pep Guardiola introduced both Kevin De Bruyne and Nolito and they both went close from distance, before Aguero was denied by a fantastic save from Pickford.
