Will Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks take on Pentagon Papers movie?

"The Post" centers around the roles of The Washington Post in publishing the papers, with Tom Hanks set to star as the Post's top editor, Ben Bradlee, alongside Meryl Streep as the paper's publisher, Kay Graham.

According to Variety, two-time Oscar victor Tom Hanks would play the editor, Ben Bradlee, while three-time Oscar victor Streep will take on the role of the publisher, Kay Graham.

Spielberg is exec producing that film, and he also is one of the interview subjects in the film about WWII's impact on cinema.

Hanks and Spielberg have previously collaborated on projects like Catch Me If You Can, The Terminal and Bridge of Spies, while the director utilized Streep's voice in A.I.

No dates for filming were revealed in the report, with award-laden director Spielberg now in post-production on sci-fi action movie, "Ready Player One", which is due to hit theatres in March 2018. Streep, coming off an Oscar nom for Florence Foster Jenkins, would play Graham.

The papers were eventually released to the public in 2011. The study detailed secret military escalations during an unwinnable war, and was leaked despite government efforts to block coverage for reasons of national security.

La La Land may have been pretty controversial when it was getting all of the Best Picture buzz leading up to the Academy Awards-and for the minute or so that it was the Best Picture winner-but nobody's going to have a hard time getting on board with future Academy Award favorite The Post.

Ellsberg was arrested and charged with conspiracy, espionage and theft of government property.

If the reported casting holds up, Hanks will be at least the fourth different actor to play Bradlee.
