Giant cruise ship nearly hits Florida home

In the process of departing Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, the cruise ship Celebrity Equinox came alarmingly close to the backyard patio of a Florida couple, who are used to see cruise ships but not this close. "Get out, I said get out!" she yells in the video as Bill waves his arms over his head.

His wife Yasmine could be heard screaming at him: "It's too close!"

Mr Todhunter told WLPG-10 News that when the ship stopped, he yelled: "Somebody is going to get fired!" which had numerous almost 3000 passengers applauding.

"This thing is coming to the house and I was really worried I was worried about my husband, I was worried about the dogs and I was worried about the house", she said. The couple says this is the first time something like this has happened, and they want a better explanation.

The company added that the vessel operated safely and did not put guests or crew at risk.

"We can also confirm the ship did not touch bottom", Royal Caribbean said.

Florida homeowners are questioning a cruise line's response after a Celebrity ship got too close for comfort to a portside home. "We've never seen anything like that".

Todhunter told local media: "I looked up and all I could see was the bow of the vessel, and it was towering over the house".

Kelly said that it is required by law for cruise companies and cruise captains to report a grounding incident.

In a time of growing income inequality and housing stress, I can think of no greater or more satisfying expression of justice than an enormous yacht called the Celebrity Equinox plowing into some dude's multimillion dollar waterfront home. He said that after stopping, then appearing to reverse, the Equinox turned into the channel and went out to sea.
