Northwestern doesn't hold back in celebrating first tournament bid

The NCAA announced its bracket for the annual men's basketball tournament, which begins Tuesday.

If there's one thing that we've seen throughout the season, it's been that any team can beat another on any given night. It also didn't help that Cal mixed in losses to San Diego State, Stanford, Utah and Colorado, all top 100 teams but none ever serious threats to reach the NCAA tournament. Last season, Boeheim said the Orange earned a No. 10 seed because of five Top 50 wins, two of which came on a neutral court in the Bahamas against Texas A&M and CT. The Wildcats will begin defense of their title in Buffalo against the victor of the play-in game between Mount St. Mary's and New Orleans on Thursday night.

-Syracuse, a controversial bubble team that made it to the Final Four a year ago, was left out this time - its 84 ranking in the RPI and lack of solid road wins dooming its hopes. OR is the 3-seed in the Midwest, playing Iona in Sacramento on Friday. Cincinnati finished with a 29-5 record, one game behind the champion SMU Mustangs in the AAC Conference.

USC, Wake Forest, Kansas State and Providence were the last automatic bids into the field.

If you are planning to attend any of the NCAA Tournament action, you had better scoop up your tickets quickly!

Six other teams from the Big Ten will join Northwestern as March Madness participants.

The odds of picking 60 plus consecutive winners is harder than winning most lotteries.

As the selection show went to commercial break after the third bracket was revealed, though, he settled back in his seat and said, "We're going West!"
