'Die-in' staged in Virginia Beach in protest of ACA replacement vote

The vote on the Republican bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, has been delayed.

In a bid to appeal to conservative Republican lawmakers who still oppose the American Health Care Act, White House officials are working to eliminate a provision under the ACA that requires payers to cover 10 essential health benefits, reports Politico. "The reduced purchasing power with the AHCA tax credits will put insurance coverage out of reach for millions of Americans", AMA said in its letter.

The GOP-controlled House will delay its vote on the bill, called the American Health Care Act, sources told CNBC.

Contending that "America is stronger because of the Affordable Care Act", Obama pointed to the 20 million-plus people who gained health care coverage under the law.

The Congressional Budget Office estimated earlier this month that the bill would reduce the deficit by $337 billion through 2026 but leave about 24 million more people uninsured than would be under the current law.

If the new Republican health care plan passes, there will be no health insurance that I can afford. We, after a short discussion, have chose to repeal and replace your health care.

Democrats will have an easy time with this vote: they and most of their constituents prefer the ACA to the new bill, so they can safely vote no.

Molina said his main concern with the legislation is changes to Medicaid, which would go from open-ended payments to block grants to the states in 2020.

The AMA said it is willing to work with Congress on proposals that will boost the number of Americans with quality, affordable health insurance coverage. They didn't vote for Republicans then and they won't now, so what does it matter? She says 98 percent of her patients are able to see her through their Medicaid coverage.
