Vet Says April the Giraffe's Baby Delivery Should Not Be Far Away

Animal Adventure Park, in upstate NY, just released an excited update saying that the world famous giraffe is about to give birth at last.

They noted that they "we would be shocked to get through the weekend without our newest addition".

Patch said park officials called in a doctor because April had "progressed significantly overnight".

"Today is not the day to stop watching", Animal Adventure Park owner Jordan Patch said Friday on Good Morning America.

This is what we have all been waiting for! In an update posted Friday morning, park staff said April's about to deliver - just as the month of March rolls into the giraffe's namesake month.

Much like long breaks between seasons of your favorite show or with long-running government operations, speculation and theories often have time to percolate. The live stream now has a huge Toy R Us logo.

Rest assured, we are watching her, too. People who've visited the park in previous months knew of April's pregnancy and the park has been receiving inquiries about her giving birth.

The delivery will mark the fourth calf for 15-year-old April, according to the park.

And while some of us just want the stream to be over, other people see April and the media coverage she's receiving as a welcome break from continuous, and at times, depressing news cycle.

At the start of every day, April's keepers check on her and make a status report, which is relayed to the veterinarian by AAP officials, Patch told Live Science in an email.

Mom will naturally raise the calf on her own, and weaning could take between six to 10 months, maybe even longer - the zoo says it won't rush the process. We've seen her act with affection to her mate Oliver.

Once the calf is born, the zoo will hold a contest to name it. This will be his first calf.

When it's born, he or she will weigh around 150 pounds and will be about 6′ tall! Labor lasts anywhere from a few hours to a few days.
