Mylan announces recall of EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. devices

The recall is due to the potential that these devices may contain a defective part that may result in the devices' failure to activate.

Pfizer Canada is recalling EpiPens because they may not work properly.

So far, the US recall covers 13 EpiPen lots distributed from December 17, 2015, to July 1, 2016. These reactions, of course, can be fatal if left untreated and, which makes the EpiPen product special and very important.

Mylan got a lot of criticism a year ago when the price for its product increased by over 400 percent.

Mylan advised consumers to keep and use their current EpiPens if needed until they get a replacement.

Mylan says: "Patients may receive either EpiPen Auto-Injector or the authorized generic for EpiPen Auto-Injector at the pharmacy as a replacement based on availability". The Mylan adult version are sold with a yellow label while the EpiPen Jr.is sold with a green label.

EpiPens are used to give an emergency injection of epinephrine to treat life-threatening allergic reactions. (0.15 mg) 2-packs shipped in the United States that are now included in a voluntary recall.

For more information about the recall, visit the Health Canada website.

Of course, the company reassures that the defective or faulty devices will be replaced at no cost to consumers/patients.
