Magic GM addresses free agent leak and what it means

Clearly change is needed when things go as poorly as they have for the Magic, but these types of things happen behind closed doors once the offseason hits.

Former GW star Patricio Garino, who has spent this season playing for the Austin Spurs in the NBA Development League, has been called up by the Orlando Magic, the organization announced Monday. I strongly doubt, however, that whatever impact Garino and Georges-Hunt make in their Magic careers will overshadow the fallout from a since-deleted tweet sent by Garino's agent following his signing, one which included in the background a whiteboard featuring names of potential Orlando trade and free-agent targets.

Magic GM Rob Hennigan downplayed the incident to the Orlando Sentinel's Josh Robbins, saying the lists were "not indicative" of the Magic's plans, also saying that some of the names have been proposed by other teams. The "AG" can only be Aaron Gordon, a third-year Magic forward.

The Magic are now 27-50 so it's not like any front office execs are dying to steal their blueprint for success, but it's still worth taking a look at if you're interested in seeing the "behind the scenes" stuff. The term hybrid implies players who can play multiple positions, while "spread big" means big men who can spread the floor for teams with their long-range shooting.

Stanley Johnson, Marcus Morris, Jon Leuer, and Tobias Harris all appear to be listed.

However, certain teams are already planning their offseason and which players they can add to improve going into next season.

The reality is that the Magic's options or plans could change if, as is widely expected throughout the National Basketball Association, the Magic fire Hennigan following the season after five years as the Magic's general manager.
