In the suit filed in King County Superior Court, a 46-year-old identified only as D.H. said Murray "raped and molested him" over several years, beginning in 1986, when he was 15 and addicted to crack and Murray was in his early 30s.
Murray has denied those allegations and no charges were ever filed.
Murray gave his first public comments at a brief news conference to deny allegations in a lawsuit by one man, saying "they were very painful for me".
According to the Seattle Times, a statement from Murray's personal spokesman Jeff Reading said: "These false accusations are meant to damage a prominent elected official who has been a defender of vulnerable populations for decades".
Spokesman Jeff Reading called the lawsuit a "shakedown effort" timed weeks before the May 19 mayoral campaign filing deadline.
Reading added, "Mayor Murray has never engaged in an inappropriate relationship with any minor".
In the lawsuit filed Thursday, however, the man had said he sought mental health counseling following the death of his father and was taking part in addiction-recovery programs.
Murray has been a well-known politician and has served as the 53rd and current mayor of Seattle.
Two other men, Jeff Simpson and Lloyd Anderson, came forward in 2008 during Murray's first campaign alleging similar claims at the hends of Murray.
The newspaper also reported (http://bit.ly/2oOAwXY ) that two other men said they knew Murray when they lived in a Portland, Oregon, center for troubled children. Back when former Seattle Congressman Jim McDermott retired and some wondered if Murray would run for the seat, I asked Murray if he was considering it and he laughed. Mayor Murray will vigorously fight these allegations in court.
A man is suing the mayor of Seattle over alleged child sexual assault which spanned several years in the 1980s.
I enjoy taking your questions, more than sometimes my staff likes, but this is now a legal matter that is in the courts, and that's where the questions must be addressed. Sulkin said the men were deemed not credible by law enforcement.
Murray, 61, grew up in working class neighborhoods in and around Seattle as one of seven children in an Irish Catholic family and became one of the state's most prominent political figures. Simpson and Anderson said they met Murray when they were living in Portland facility for troubled youth and are willing to testify about the abuse they say they endured.
"He would do special things, take me to movies", recalled Simpson of the time he spent with Murray.
The alleged rape victim, via his attorneys, said filing the rape allegations lawsuit was not at all politically motivated, KIRO7 reports. Reading said they'd been "promoted by extreme right-wing antigay activists" during the state's battle over gay marriage.
