Indian shares end higher; IT stocks gain

The 30-share index resumed higher at 29,630.06 and hovered in a range of 29,804.51 and 29,570.58 before closing at 29,788.35, showing a gain of 212.61 points or 0.72 percent.

However, gains were capped due to caution over the rising tensions in the Middle East and political uncertainty in Europe.

At NSE, shares of the company rose sharply by 9 per cent to close at Rs 159.35.

On Monday, the BSE Sensex closed 130 points or 0.44 per cent down at 29,576, while the NSE Nifty ended 17 points or 0.18 per cent lower at 9,181.

Sectorial indices such as FMCG, capital goods, PSU, realty and banking were in the lead, giving sentiment a lift.




A total of 1,032 shares advanced, 647 ended lower, while 83 ruled steady. The rupee was trading at 64.665 up by 0.067 paisa or 0.10% against dollar. Banks continue to look forward to NPA resolution measures shortly, and the strength was visible today.

Infosys gained 1.11 per cent on the BSE after closing as the top loser on the bourse yesterday. "India's IIP and CPI release tomorrow will keep market interested, but may not make a strong move until Q4 numbers start flowing in", said Anand James, Chief Market Strategist, Geojit Financial Services.

Meanwhile, the foreign funds sold net Rs. 716.19 crore yesterday, as per provisional figures.

State Bank of India, Sun Pharma and ONGC were other gainers on the BSE.

Major gainers were ITC 1.74 per cent, Infosys 1.48 per cent, HDFC 1.16 per cent, Wipro 1.05 per cent and ICICI Bank 0.94 per cent.
