Man arrested in connection to Vanessa Marcotte murder case

PRINCETON, MA-An arrest has been made in connection with the murder of a Princeton jogger previous year, according to multiple reports.

Massachusetts State Police have made an arrest in the murder of a jogger a year ago, sources told WBZ-TV Chief Investigative Reporter Cheryl Fiandaca.

Massachusetts State Police arrested 31-year-old Angelo Colon Ortiz in death of Vanessa Marcotte in Princeton in August 2016.

She went for a run on the afternoon of August 7, and she was reported missing when she didn't return home as expected. He is being held at the Millbury State Police barracks on $1 million cash bail.

Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said the week after her death that Marcotte likely struggled with her attacker, leaving visible "scratches, scrapes and/or bruises", he said.

Police later visited the driver's residence, and eventually obtained a voluntary DNA sample through a mouth swab. Her body was found that evening by a state police K9, less than a half-mile from her mother's home. Early said they expect to add murder charges soon. He also said Ortiz worked in the area and "had been for some time".

Her body was found at about 8 p.m. Marcotte, who worked as an account manager for Google in NY, had gone out to run several hours earlier. She had been sexually assaulted and her hands, feet and head were burned.

Authorities received thousands of tips on a dedicated line regarding Marcotte's case.

Princeton residents said they're relieved to hear about an arrest in the case.
