USA police: OH murder suspect kills self after chase

Authorities say it's now a nationwide search for 37-year-old Steve Stephens, who's wanted on an aggravated murder charge in the shooting death of a 74-year-old retired man in Cleveland on Sunday.

State police said officers spotted Steve Stephens earlier in the day in Erie County, which borders OH, after they received a tip that his vehicle was in a McDonald's parking lot.

Steve Stephens was accused of shooting Robert Godwin Sr (74) on a sidewalk on Sunday before fleeing in a vehicle and uploading a video of the murder to Facebook, becoming the focus of a nationwide manhunt. As he left, police arrived and a chase ensued. "We would prefer that it not have ended this way".

Stephens shot and killed 74-year-old Robert Godwin on Sunday morning.

In the video, Stephens named a woman and tells the victim, Robert Godwin Sr., that "she's the reason that this is about to happen toyou".

Nearly 400 tips were called in, Williams said, emphasizing the important role the public played in helping to locate Stephens. He was given his order of McNuggets, but employees tried to make him wait for his fries after one of the workers recognized him.

Green, a former court clerk, was "dumbfounded" when she found out about the murder video a day later, and promptly called him.

"Each one of us forgives the killer, the murderer", daughter Tonya Godwin Baines told CNN on Monday.

After a lighthearted introduction in which the CEO of Facebook compared its F8 developer conference to the latest film in "The Fast and the Furious" franchise (which is also referred to as "F8"), Zuckerberg turned solemn. She mentioned his Facebook posts and Stephens claimed to have killed 14 people. "That's why he is shooting people and he won't stop until his mother or girlfriend tell him to stop".

Tonya R. Godwin-Baines and Debbie D. Godwin said they know Lane did nothing wrong and wanted her to know it.
