Sundar Pichai's Compensation Doubles From Last Year To US $200 Million

Alphabet also recorded net income of $5.426 billion for the quarter than ended on March 31, up from $4.207 billion from a year ago. In response to criticism from both users and advertising customers, Google will be altering its YouTube advertising policies to give advertisers more control over where their ads are placed.

Alphabet's total revenue for the quarter was US$24.75 billion, including an nearly 50% increase for Google's "other revenues" to $3.10 billion.

GAAP income from the quarter was reported at $5.4 billion, or $7.85 per share, up from the $4.2 billion, or $6.12 per share, the company reported for the same period of a year ago.

Ruth Porat, CFO of Alphabet, said, "Our excellent results represent a terrific start to 2017, with revenues up 22 percent versus the first quarter of 2016 and 24 percent on a constant currency basis".

99% of Alphabet's revenue came from Google while the "Other Bets" section generated a total loss of $855 million that included subsections such as the self-contained auto or home thermostats.

Pichai added that Google works "very hard to create the best environment for brands on YouTube", highlighting its "cornerstone" offering Google Preferred, which allows brands to advertise against the top 5 per cent of content. It's super important to us that the ecosystem works well, it matters for advertisers and content makers, we take it seriously.

Revenue in the most-recent quarter, minus payouts to partners, rose to $20.12 billion, above projections of $19.76 billion. This rise at the moment is of 4% that assumes the value of per share has shot up from the $891 per share at the closing of the bag to $930 per share, this being its historical maximum in the stock market.

"With the change to Alphabet, oversight has been easier because of increased visibility", Page wrote. We have streamlined efforts where it made sense and in other areas we have seen places to double down.

"I. think we have learned a lot about how to set up new companies with a structure for success", he wrote in the letter.

And the revenue increases were not driven by sales of Pixel smartphones, cloud or any of the other technologies the company likes to show off, but of online advertising. "It's super important for us that this ecosystem works well". Last year, this figure stood at $6.

The company is locked in a battle with social media company Facebook Inc FB.O in the fast-growing mobile advertising market.

Despite announcing revenues of $244m - a near 50pc increase on 2016 - it still posted significant losses of $855m.
