At 100 days in, Trump seems both outsider and insider

In an hour-long speech attacking the media and predecessor Barack Obama, boasting about his support for United States industry and the military, vaunting his foreign policy positions including on confronting North Korea, reading a poem, and repeating his signature "Make America Great Again" motto, Trump earned cheer after cheer from the crowd in Pennsylvania.

While on the presidential campaign trail, Trump repeatedly censured USA membership in worldwide trade deals, pledging to renegotiate or withdraw the country from multilateral trade accords that for decades have served as foundations for global economics. "If the media's job is to be honest and to tell the truth, the media deserves a very, very big fat failing grade".

During the 2017 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, the big elephant in the room was who wasn't in the room: the president. "Pretty soon they'll only be on the Internet", said Trump of often-target the Times, claiming it's "starting to look like a comic book" in size. Trump said he was thrilled to be away from the "Washington swamp".

To attend the rally at Pennsylvania, Trump even ditched the White House Correspondents' dinner in Washington.

Trump has proven himself to be deeply concerned about the size of the crowds he draws.

"His determination to leverage his office to expand his commercial empire is the only objective to which Americans, after 100 days, can be confident this president will stay true". During the campaign, President Trump railed against Obama's use of orders, which don't need congressional approval.

He did notch some successes - most notably, the appointment of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.

At the 100-day mark, opinion polls show that Trump's supporters during the campaign remain largely loyal. As Vox reporters noted here, Trump has really only accomplished three of the 30 things he promised to do by Saturday.

When he finished his diatribe against the press, he finally started ticking off what he described as accomplishments. "It put the countries of this world on notice that the sellout of the American worker was over".

They have noted embarrassing setbacks for Trump on health care and a travel ban, and reversals on China and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, while also recognizing campaign pledges he has met, such as appointing a conservative Supreme Court judge and pulling the country out of the Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement.

When one protester interrupted, Trump thanked the fire marshal for escorting the person out. He says it's needed to get the economy growing at 3 percent and to pay for rising costs of programs such as Social Security and Medicare.

He paused another time to single out a man holding a "Blacks for Trump" sign. Minhaj joked that Trump was in Pennsylvania "because he can't take a joke".

Mr Trump has said he will honour the deal.

He also took a dig at the Obama administration. "And we are not the enemy of the American people." association president Jeff Mason told a ballroom of journalists who gave a standing ovation at his last sentence.

"One hundred days of action".

Vice President Mike Pence also made an appearance at the rally, labeling the mainstream media as "fake news" and prompting chants of "CNN sucks" from the audience while introducing Trump. "In fact those people and others are exhausted".
