Trump meets Lavrov, Kislyak at White House

This ambition has been largely derailed, however, by continued questions over his campaign's alleged ties to Russia, accusations of Russian meddling in the 2016 United States presidential election and the two countries' disagreements over Syria.

The White House assembled reporters to go into the Oval Office around the time of the meeting, but when they entered, they found Trump meeting with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

Lavrov is speaking at the Russian Embassy in Washington after meetings with President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

They originally were scheduled to meet in Fairbanks, but the plans were changed at the last minute so Lavrov could come to Washington.

Mr. Trump said. "We're right now talking about Russian Federation and various other matters".

The president also said the issue had not affected his meeting with Lavrov.

In Washington, Tillerson made no comment on the Comey firing or on the substantive issues he would discuss with Lavrov.

"That's the US president's independent decision, which has nothing to do and should have nothing to do with Russian Federation". The last time Lavrov visited the American capital was before Russian Federation annexed Crimea from Ukraine and intervened militarily in Syria to help President Bashar Assad - actions that fueled U.S.

Trump fired Comey on Tuesday on the recommendation of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
