7 things to know about New Jersey's Saturday soaker

Overnight lows this weekend will range from the upper 50s to the low 60s. Those winds may cause some flooding around high tide tonight.

The National Weather Service says there is increasing confidence that a nor'easter will bring heavy rain and wind on Mother's Day weekend.

Saturday: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Essentially the trough will split in two, with the northern section hooking up with a cut-off low coming out of the desert southwest.

The real action happens on Saturday when the new system is expected to reach the Mid-Atlantic coast and spawn a springtime nor'easter.

Like the past couple of days, today will likely also be rain-free.

Heavy rain will overtake eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York City and Long Island on Saturday, before shifting northeastward to Boston and Portland, Maine, on Saturday night. Any sort of early sunshine Saturday will give way to clouds and some rain could start pushing into southern NH as quickly as late afternoon. Light rain/drizzle in the morning, scattered showers in the afternoon. High tide at Sewells Point is around 11:14 p.m.

Sunday: A chance of showers before noon. Readings are well into the 80s for Wednesday and Thursday. More than 3 inches of rain has fallen in the county this month, according to the website.

Because of the forecast, Duckling Day and Lilac Sunday in Boston have been cancelled. After the rain, and after this extended stretch of cool temps, we're going to be hungry for warm, sunny weather.

By the middle of next week, a ridge takes over.

Both today and tomorrow will feature a blend of sunshine and clouds.
