Reema Lagoo passed away on Thursday in Kokilaben Hospital, Mumbai due to cardiac arrest. She was complaining of chest pain late night on May 17.
"We will issue a health report later in the day, after consulting with her family", he said. She complained of chest pain on Wednesday and was rushed to the hospital where she breathed her last.
While Lagoo made a mark as a new-age mother in Hindi films, she also did notable work on TV and Marathi screen and stage.
She is survived by daughter Mrunmayee, who is also a theatre and film actress and theatre director.
In an acting career spanning nearly four decades, Lagoo appeared in several hit films like "Saajan", "Vaastav, "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", "Hum Saath-Saath Hain", "Deewana Mastana", "Yes Boss" and "Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon".
Lagoo, who is now seen on the STAR Plus show Naamkarann, was prolific on the small screen and is best remembered for playing the quarrelsome mother-in-law in Tu Tu Main Main. She was a very pleasant and talented lady.
"Reemaji played my mother in the film "Jazbaat" and my very first shot was with her". She used to call me pillu and I will really miss that. She had learnt never to take success or failure too seriously and lived her life happily.
Prominent actors like Rishi Kapoor, Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, Shreyas Talpade, Rakesh Bedi, Anang Desai, Raza Murad, Sulbha Arya, Ashoke Pandit, Sai Tamhankar and her "Naamkarann" co-star Sayantani Ghosh were present during the cremation. Her character in this film was an epitome of motherhood as she had to choose between her step-son (Behl) and her biological child (Salman)."Your tenacity, your sense of humour, your love for life, your enthusiasm for acting" will always be an inspiration, Viraf wrote.
One of her most successful roles was "Hum Aapke Hai Koun...!", where she essayed the role of Anupam Kher's wife and Madhuri Dixit's mother. She had no problems that we knew of. I remember we did a play together when I was in Class VI and she was in Class X. We worked together in Shrimaan Shrimati.
I did my first film with Reemaji, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.
She had won the Best Actress award at Maharashtra State Film Awards for Reshamgaath (2002). The whole industry is now in a state of shock.
